North Carolina Coast Fine Art Added to the Gallery
I have added some new fine art to the gallery. Some of the pictures are among my favorites. They include pictures taken in the Croatan National Forest as well as in Seaport, North Carolina. Both locations are coastal North Carolina, and the art is of the coast / seascapes.

Inspiratiional Photography and Messages
In 2009 I envisioned a series of graveyard pictures and inspirational messages. I created a series of fine art photographs and art and inspirational messages to accompany them. The series gathered attention because it offered inspiration, and those who were aware of it liked it very much. But I made no real effort to publicize it and eventually pulled the series from public exhibition.
The series was lost for a couple of years, but I recently rediscovered it. I began to read the inspirational messages and instantly tears were brought to my eyes. The thoughts are so powerfully emotional - about life and death, about forgotten memories, about great joy and deep sorrow - that I decided to publish the body of work once again. My hope is to inspire others.
The project consists of fifteen images and inspirational thoughts, and spans almost 5 years of work. Pictures were taken in historic graveyards during the Autumns of 2006-2009.
The blending of graveyard sadness and the lively colors of Autumn is symbolic of the mysteries of life and death. The colorful leaves, as well as ourselves, both eventually become the enduring dust of the universe.

There is splendor in the graveyard. Tread lightly on the grass. The worries that we carried have been buried in the ground. Our spirits are unfettered. We have breached the earthly barriers. There is nothing to hold us down. Cooper has risen. He soars forever.

Bodie Lighthouse on the Outer Banks of North Carolina Reopens to Visitors
These recently-taken images are of the Bodie Lighthouse on the Outer Banks of North Carolina seen reflected in the waters and showing the saltwater marshes that surround it.
After years of restoration and repair, the Bodie Lighthouse on the Outer Banks of North Carolina is scheduled to reopen to visitors today, April 16, 2013.
The scaffolding has been taken down, the lighthouse has received a new paintjob, the Fresnel lens has been replaced, and the lighthouse interior has been repaired. The doors are schedule to be opened to visitors April 16th.
I have taken many photographs of the lighthouse on Bodie Island throughout the years in all seasons and at all times of the day and night. I have taken photos of it before the sunrise and at sunset. These picture were recently taken after the scaffolding was taken down, but before the lens was replaced and the lighthouse opened to visitors.
The photo with the lighthouse reflected in water was taken from the newly-constructed boardwalk that allows you to walk over the saltwater marshes that border the lighthouse. Lots of wildlife including birds and deer can be seen near the lighthouse. The other photos show the boardwalk and the marsh area, and one of these was brushed into the style of a painted photograph.
The lighthouse was shrouded in a rather unattractive scaffold for yeas, but now the long wait is over. The Bodie Lighthouse has been restored and made even more beautiful than before. If you visit or vacation on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, the Bodie lighthouse is a must-see attraction.
If you are a photographer or an artist, you can capture the beauty of Bodie at both sunrise and sunset.
If you visit in late spring, summer, or fall, be sure the bring the insect repellant. It, too, is a must.

Gentle Thoughts - a new fine art abstract landscape
I have added a new abstract landscape to the Tranquil Moments gallery that I like a lot. The image is titled "Gentile Thoughts - A Tranquil Moments Landscape".
I like the style of the photo because it looks like Japanese art. As the title implies, it is a very soothing, gentle picture.
The photo was taken at the Currituck Banks National Estuarine Reserve. The reserve is located just north of the Corolla lighthouse on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The reserve is a unique habitat containing a wide variety of ecosystems. It is a maritime forest and also contains brackish and freshwater marshes. It is the southern-most range for many northern species and the northern-most range for some southern species.
The reserve has a nice boardwalk that will take you to the edge of Currituck Sound. Should you choose not to walk the boardwalk, the reserve also has a nice hiking trail which ends at Currituck Sound in a different area. The reserve is full of beautiful, twisted, and convulated live oak trees like this one. The wild horses of Corolla can also be seen in the reserve.

Blue Ridge Mountains Farm in North Carolina at Sunset
I have added a new fine art photograph to the online gallery. The picture shows the sun setting on an old, rusty vintage piece of farm equipment. I'm not fully sure what it is, but I think it is some type of grader. The photo was taken in a rural farming area of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina not too far from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
I like the way the low light of the setting sun and the long shadows it creates is cast upon the side of the grader. It makes this photo look almost 3D. When I composed the picture I tried to put it in context. On the right and filling most of the picture is open pasture farm land. On the upper left is other vintage farm equipment which I tried to connect the grader to.
At the location this picture was taken, there are probably 50 or 60 pieces of old vintage farm equipment parked along the side of the road. I talked to the retired farmer about them and he told me that over his long lifetime career as a farmer, as equipment was replaced he would park it on the side of the road. But he also told me that every piece was restored to functionality before it was replaced there.
I have taken many pictures at this location, but have not visited it in years. A developer purchased some very large chunks of land not to far from the farmer's location and began building huge retirement home meccas. I would not be surprised to fine the old farm equipment is no longer lining the side of the road.
